Florida's governor and Republican leaders are pushing a dramatic package of tort law changes through the state Legislature. The bills would, among other actions, protect radiologists reading mammograms, shield asbestos companies and make it difficult or impossible for crime victims to file premises liability suits against businesses. "This is all about Gov. Bush trying to placate the business community," says one Democratic state senator. "They are literally trying to close the courthouse doors."
