Ashcroft: Looking Back, Looking Forward

Reflecting on four sometimes tumultuous years as attorney general -- a period during which the Justice Department's mission transformed -- John Ashcroft talked last week about measuring the DOJ's successes, protecting religious and civil liberties, and wishing he had done a "better job of explaining the Patriot Act so that it would not have been the subject of so much misinformation." The AG also revisited his controversial, post-Sept. 11 remarks about tactics that aid terrorists.
