More than 90 prominent lawyers and former Supreme Court law clerks are sharply criticizing the law clerks who gave Vanity Fair magazine behind-the-scenes details about deep Court divisions in the 2000 case Bush v. Gore. The statement says the clerks violated their conduct code and that their revelations "cannot be excused as acts of 'courage' or something the clerks were 'honor-bound' to do." Adds one of the statement's signers: "If any attorney did that, he'd be disbarred."
