Overhauling rules on gifts for judges for the first time in 15 years, the ABA is looking at ways to limit the trinkets, expense-paid trips and other freebies bestowed upon members of the bench. The commission -- whose work is getting more attention since the infamous duck hunting trip taken by Dick Cheney and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia -- is working on a proposal due to be released next week for public comment. Any rule changes could eventually affect thousands of judges.
