Politics Blocking Otherwise Uncontested Court Nominees

Two dozen of President Bush's otherwise noncontroversial federal judgeship choices have stalled just short of a Senate vote -- hostages to a dispute with Minority Leader Tom Daschle, who is refusing to permit floor votes on any nominees. Daschle says his actions are partly a protest against the recess appointments of two hotly contested picks for the appellate bench -- Charles Pickering Sr. for the 5th Circuit and William Pryor Jr. for the 11th Circuit.
