Group Alleges Document Prep Service Provides Legal Advice by Nonlawyers

A Texas legal watchdog group filed suit last week against a California-based company, alleging that it operates a document preparation service that provides legal advice by nonlawyers. UPLC v. Alight Inc. d/b/a We the People Texas Inc. requests injunctive relief against the company, which has 130 offices in 27 states. In recent years, the watchdog group has also sued publishers of legal self-help books and legal self-help software.
