In a rare win for the federal side of the Supreme Court's federalism debate, the Court on Tuesday said Congress acted properly in exposing states to suits over FMLA violations. Chief Justice William Rehnquist wrote the opinion, even though he's been the chief architect of the Court's pro-states federalism jurisprudence. Also Tuesday, the Court ruled in a police questioning case and declined to hear a challenge to closed deportation hearings.
