Bingham McCutchen’s Tokyo office has recruited a seven-lawyer investment funds team from White & Case.
The group is led by partners Christopher Wells and Tomoko Fuminaga. Wells, a 20-year veteran of White & Case who has practiced in Japan for three decades, focuses on the Japan investments of overseas funds. He also acts for multinational financial groups on compliance and license qualification matters, and for foreign corporations forming joint ventures with Japanese partners.
Before joining White & Case, Wells also previously worked at Baker & McKenzie, Coudert Bros. and Japanese firm Anderson Mori & Tomotsune.
Fuminaga, who first joined White & Case in 2000, has a similar practice targeting investment funds and financial institutions.
Wells and Fuminaga are joining Bingham with a team of five additional lawyers, including counsel Carol Tsuchida.
Bingham has around 75 lawyers in its Tokyo office, including 33 partners. The Boston-based firm has around 1,000 lawyers worldwide.
