A single media company can own both a newspaper and a television station in the same market, the 3rd Circuit ruled Tuesday. Starting in the 1970s, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) banned, with a few exceptions, media conglomerates from owning multiple media outlets within the same market as an attempt to block duopolies. The FCC announced it would relax the rule in 2007, but several court challenges stayed the action.
