The Judicial Nominating Commission has submitted four names to Gov. Jack Markell to consider as a possible replacement for retiring Delaware Supreme Court Justice Jack B. Jacobs, according to sources familiar with the process.

The candidates are Superior Court President Judge James T. Vaughn Jr.; Superior Court Judge Jan R. Jurden; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom attorney Karen L. Valihura; and Widener University School of Law professor Lawrence Hamermesh.

Valihura is the lone Republican candidate, while the remaining three nominees are Democrats.

Markell is scheduled to interview all four candidates later this week.
