Brown Harris Stevens, a New York-based luxury residential real estate firm, has expanded its Florida footprint with the purchase of Avatar Real Estate Services in Miami.

The new company, rebranded as Brown Harris Stevens Avatar LLC, will be led by Vivian Dimond, who founded Avatar in 2002, Brown Harris announced Wednesday.

The deal inflates Brown Harris’s South Florida team with 78 new agents and increases its reach in Miami-Dade County with two additional office locations at 2665 S. Bayshore Drive in Miami and 7500 Red Road in Coral Gables.

“The diverse and vibrant South Florida market has proven to be ideal for Brown Harris Stevens, and we are delighted that Avatar has joined the firm,” said co-owner Arthur Zeckendorf.

The firm has broadened its reach to the Miami Beach, downtown Miami, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne, South Miami and Pinecrest markets.

“Avatar’s agents’ incredible success, knowledge of the market and commitment to excellent service dovetails perfectly with the principles for which Brown Harris Stevens has stood for since 1873,” Zeckendorf said in a news release.

Brown Harris expanded to the Miami market in mid-2015 with the acquisition of Zilbert International Realty, a luxury real estate brokerage in Miami Beach. The company opened a second Miami Beach office soon after the merger. Key Biscayne’s Ocean Club Realty joined Brown Harris last year, and the company plans to soon open a second office in Key Biscayne, according to a news release.
