Newegg Fights Bad Patents With Anti-Troll T-shirt
Online tech store Newegg.com, which has become something of a patent troll fighter extraordinaire, is selling anti-troll T-shirts to raise money to help fight bad patents.
“Trolls are giving us a wide berth now, but we want to stay in the fight,” Cheng told CorpCounsel.com. “We are offended that these trolls are targeting small and medium-size businesses, like podcasters and app developers, who can’t afford litigation, so we’re going to use the money we raise to target a bad patent and invalidate it.”
The T-shirts retail for $20, and the company hopes to raise $30,000, Cheng said. It plans to use the proceeds to bring a patent to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for an inter-partes review with the aim of having it invalidated. “We will expose it for the piece of crap that it is,” he said.
