New Citibank India GC Following In-House Path
Pramod Rao will join Citibank India as general counsel in July, the bank announced Thursday.
Rao told Indian newspaper Legally India about the challenges he expects to face in his new job: Its going to be a challenging time in a multinational and an organisation that is 200 years old and spread out all over the world, adding that hes especially looking forward to working in-house. I am more comfortable in being an in-house counsel, and that is where my path lies.
In moving back to the corporate world, Rao is doing the inverse of his predecessor Sandip Beri, who resigned to return to private practice. Beri served as general counsel for the bank for three years.
Rao is a founding partner at Indian law firm IndusLaws Mumbai office, where he focused on banking and finance. Until 2012, he was general counsel of ICICI Bank Limited, where he worked for 16 years. He received his law degree from the National Law School, Bangalore.
