Snoopy and Charlie Brown will be turning to Ricardo Anzaldua for legal advice now that he has taken over as general counsel for MetLife Inc., the insurance and benefits company that features the Peanuts gang in its ads.
Anzaldua is replacing Nicholas Latrenta, who has retired from MetLifes top legal spot after 43 years with the company.
The new GC comes to MetLife from a five-year stint at The Hartford Financial Services Group, where he served as associate general counsel and senior vice president. Before going in-house at The Hartford, Anzaldua was a partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he worked on general corporate transactions, corporate governance, and negotiating international trade agreements.
As general counsel for the global provider of insurance, annuities, and employee benefits, Anzaldua leads the companys worldwide legal function and oversees the government relations and public policy department, corporate secretary's office, and corporate ethics and compliance group.
In a statement from MetLife, chairman, president, and CEO Steven Kandarian said: Ricardo's significant experience as an advisor in legal, financial and transactional matters, along with his industry knowledge, will make him a valuable resource to MetLife, our customers and our shareholders. Anzaldua reports directly to Kandarian.
Anzaldua did his undergraduate work in Latin American studies and economics at Brown University, and earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School.
