Stephanie Tsacoumis
On December 10, Stephanie Tsacoumis will join the legal department of the Consumer Product Safety Commission as its new general counsel. She is coming to the federal regulator after three years as GC for Georgetown University.
In her new role at the CPSC, Tsacoumis will coordinate petitions and rulemaking, pursue civil penalties and administrative lawsuits, and enforce federal safety standards. The agency is in charge of protecting the U.S. public from risks associated with the use of consumer products, and provides product recall and safety guidelines for products ranging from infant cribs and car seats to lawn mowers and light fixtures.
During her time at Georgetown (where she was also an adjunct professor at the university’s law school), Tsacoumis oversaw the creation of a legal framework for an online degree program in nursing that provided education for nurses in 11 states.
Tsacoumis also spent 13 years at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, including a six-year stint as co-partner-in-charge of the firm’s Washington D.C. office. Prior to that, she was a partner at Morrison & Forester.
According to a statement from CPSC chairman Inez Tenenbaum, Tsacoumis “brings more than 25 years of award-winning legal experience to CPSC and our vital safety mission on behalf of American's consumers.”
Tsacoumis earned a B.A. in economics from The College of William and Mary, and her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
