DLA Piper has entered into a strategic alliance with Indonesia’s Ivan Almaida Baely & Firmansyah Law Firm.

According to its website, Ivan Almaida has three partners in its Jakarta office: Ivan Baely, Almaida Askandar, and Tjahyono Firmansyah.

Foreign law firms are not permitted to have offices in Indonesia or practice Indonesian law, so several international firms have sought tie-ups with local firms in order to have an on-the-ground presence in the country, one of the fastest-growing economies in the region.

Other international firms that also have Indonesian alliances include Baker & McKenzie, Herbert Smith Freehills, O’Melveny & Myers, Norton Rose, Hogan Lovells, and White & Case.

From its regional base in Singapore, DLA Piper has targeted Indonesian work including major infrastructure projects, restructurings, privatizations, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures.
