Troutman Sanders has launched a Beijing office with a former Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe partner.
Allen Shyu, who worked in Hong Kong for Orrick, is a corporate lawyer who focuses on Hong Kong and U.S. capital markets transactions on behalf of mainland Chinese companies. Last year, Shyu advised aluminum producer China Hongqiao Group Ltd. on a $943 million Hong Kong initial public offering.
Qualified to practice in the U.S., Shyu started his legal career as an associate at Taiwanese law firm Lee & Li. He relocated to Hong Kong to join Baker & McKenzie in 2000 and was made partner six years later. Shyu joined Orrick as partner in 2010.
Shyu joins the firm with four ex-Orrick associates, who will work in Troutman Sanders’ Hong Kong office.
Atlanta-based Troutman Sanders opened in Hong Kong in 1997 and in Shanghai ten years later. The firm recently also hired Hong Kong litigator Ronald Sum from the local office of Philadelphia’s Blank Rome.
