For the second year in a row, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett topped the league table for total dollar value. The New York–based firm advised bidders on 22 transactions that totaled $39.9 billion, including the year’s three largest buyouts.

Kirkland & Ellis led the pack in number of buyouts and came in second in dollar value, advising on 25 transactions worth a total of $17.8 billion.

Weil, Gotshal & Manges shot up from  number 13 to number 3 on our deal value rankings, advising on private equity acquisitions totaling $17.1 billion.
