Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has hired a new litigation partner in Hong Kong.

Charles Allen most recently led the Hong Kong commercial litigation team for Sidley Austin. A Hong Kong-qualified lawyer, Allen represents banks, insurers and investment funds in contractual disputes and tort cases. He also advises on regulatory matters and government investigations.

He joined Sidley in 2002 from Simmons & Simmons and became a partner in 2007.

Allen is the first Hong Kong-based disputes partner Orrick hired in Hong Kong since last February, when the firm lost Hong Kong-qualified investigations partner Andrew Dale to Ropes & Gray. The office’s litigation, arbitration and investigations practice was under the supervision of partners in Beijing, Tokyo, London and the United States, according to a New York-based spokeswoman.

Orrick has 35 lawyers in Hong Kong, including nine partners.
