Employee terminations are inevitable. In a recent article, Laura Schneider of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr offered some tips on how to minimize liability when firing employees. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Identify the reason for termination: Whether you’re firing someone because of her poor performance or a group of people due to fiscal reasons, clearly communicate this. “Whatever the reason for the termination, don’t give employees false information about it,” says Schneider.
