A senior court officer has been awarded a total of $388,026, most of it for mental anguish she suffered when she was escorted from a state courthouse in Troy to her home and made to surrender guns she kept there.

Court of Claims Judge Judith Hard said Officer Colleen Casey’s “highly unusual” case was made worse by the way the April 24, 2009, incident was carried out by court officials. Hard said it served to cause Casey, who had a history of sexual assaults and abusive sexual relationships with men, to suffer severe trauma and later attempt suicide.
