Latham & Watkins has recruited a Hong Kong finance partner from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Howard Lam advises on cross-border debt restructuring, insolvency work and other complex financing transactions. In 2011, he advised Hong Kong jewelry retail chain Chow Tai Fook on a restructuring, including over $1 billion in financing, prior to its initial public offering in December of that year.

Lam joined Freshfields as a partner in May 2011 from Linklaters, where he was a counsel. Lam also previously worked at Allen & Overy and Deacons.

Latham’s Hong Kong office now has about 45 lawyers, including 10 partners, according to the firm’s website. The firm employs about 2,000 lawyers in 32 offices worldwide.
