This week, I’m delving into the complex issue of racial injustice and what law schools are and aren’t doing to combat it. Black women law deans including Boston University’s Angela Onwuachi-Willig and Penn State Dickinson’s Danielle Conway are leading the charge to push the academy to confront its internal racism and to find ways to bring an end to racial inequality beyond campus. Meanwhile, black law students from a number of schools say they are fed up with what they see as empty gestures from administrators who fail to implement real reforms. Can the academy take a hard look at itself and do better on matters of race and inequality? I think so.
